We organize a summer camp, "Chemistry Meets Computers", for high-school students in the local area, in partnership with Detroit-Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).
Summer 2026: Monday, August 3 - Friday, August 7. 1pm - 5pm every day.

Chemistry - often called the central science - explores the composition, structure, properties, and behavior of matter. While many people associate chemistry with test tubes and laboratory experiments, modern chemical research increasingly relies on powerful computer simulations to understand and design molecules and materials.
This summer, discover how chemistry and computing come together to solve real-world problems. In this hands-on camp, you will:
- Explore cutting-edge applications of computational chemistry: Learn how computers are used in developing advanced materials for clean energy, such as solar cells.
- Build and visualize molecules in 3D: Use free molecular modeling software to construct and explore molecular and crystal structures, deepening your understanding of key high-school chemistry concepts like bonding and geometry.
- Learn the fundamentals of Python programming: Gain practical experience with Python - a widely used language in science, engineering, and data analysis - and apply it to real chemical problems.
- Conduct a mini research project: Work in teams on a guided, research-style project in computational chemistry, applying your newly acquired skills in modeling and/or programming.
